Most of the times we are swept by the grandeur and cost of expensive celebrity homes. But can you believe that there are paintings which are costlier than the most expensive homes in the world!! Today we take a look at such artworks which are worth billions.
The first in the list is Interchange, a painting by Willem de Kooning, an abstract expressionist painter. Koonig made this painting in 1955 which was sold in 2015 for $300 million.
When Will You Marry? (Tahitian: Nafea faa ipoipo) is an oil painting by the French artist Paul Gauguin in 1982. It was sold in 2015 for US $300 million (£197 million)
The Card Players is a set of oil paintings by the French Paul Cézanne. Painted in the early 1890s it was sold in 2011 to the Royal Family of Qatar at a price estimated between US$250 – $US300 million

6 (Violet, Green and Red) is a painting by the Russian artist Mark Rothko. Painted in 1951 this painting consists of large expanses of colour delineated by uneven, hazy shades. The painting was bought for $186 million
The Pendant portraits of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit are creation of famous painter. The pair of paintings was sold in 2015 for $180million, a record for works by Rembrandt
Les Femmes d’Alger(Women of Algiers) is a 15 painting series by the Spanish cubist artist Pablo Picasso.To create this series he his tribute to Eugène Delacroix’s 1834 painting The Women of Algiers in their Apartment This entire series was bought by a Paris couple for $179 million in June 1956.
Nu couché(also known in English as Red Nude or Reclining Nude) is an oil painting on canvas by the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani in 1917. Even today it is one of his most exhibited paintings. The painting was sold for $170 million at a Christie’s New York sale in 2015
No 5, 1948 is a painting by Jackson Pollock, an American painter known for his contributions to the abstract expressionist movement. This painting is worth $140 million.
AnotherWillem de Kooning creation Woman III finds itself in the top 10 list. This painting is from the series of six paintings by de Kooning done between 1951 and 1953 in which the central theme was a woman. The painting was sold for $137.5 million in 2006, making it the fourth most expensive painting ever sold.
